How Far Can You See?

Updated: Feb 19, 2020

My wife and I were on the way to church on Sunday. Traffic was flowing very well on I-64, and we were having a pleasant conversation. All of a sudden, I saw tail lights coming on in the cars in front of me and the vehicles began to swerve. My attention was immediately focused, as I tried to figure out what was going on.

There, in the middle of the passing lane was the front end of a car laying in the road. It must have been two or three hundred pounds of debris. Of course, I took evasive action and quickly by-passed the danger. Later I found out it had dropped off of a truck carrying damaged cars.

What if this had been at night? I know many people that struggle while driving at night. They just can’t see that well! Have you ever seen people, well after dark, driving with NO HEADLIGHTS WORKING? What are they thinking, or do they? Some may only have their parking lights on or only one headlight that’s shining.

I liken this to Emergency Preparedness. I would think that at least 98% of the people in the world are on the highway of life going 70 MPH with their preparedness headlights turned off. They haven’t a clue what is going on. In an emergency they are ‘Toast’!

Then there are those that may have their parking lights working, they at least have a 72 hour kit.

God, bless those that have their driving lights on in full blaze and can see the dangers and obstacles looming in the pitch dark. They are prepared, becoming more aware of what they need to do for preparation.
